This is the SONY HDRSR12. It is awesome. 1920 x 1080 resolution recording for 880 minutes to the 120Gb HDD. This will be particularly useful for my travels because i wont need to upload all the data to my computer every day (I doubt I’ll be recording 880 minutes every day), so i’ll have more free time. 880 minutes = 14.667 hours which is plenty. That should be at least a week of recording time (I hope), so once a week I’ll sit down in the evening, transfer all the video & still photos I’ve taken during the week and edit up a video podcast or something. Once video podcast a week should be good. About 10-20 minutes per podcast. Although I’ll only upload podcasts in SD to save upload time. When I finish the trip I’ll edit up the footage into a documentary-type series thing, though, mainly for myself to look back on all the experiences, etc.
Anyway, back to the HDRSR12. It is awesome. Apart from the 1920×1080i recording, it also can record still photos simultaneously, has 5.1 stereo input, touchscreen LCD, face detection, microphone and headphone jacks, manual settings and more. It kicks ass. It’s also only $1640 at the cheapest place I’ve found (+ shipping) which is pretty darn cheap for an awesome HD Video Camera. Now if I can just get Final Cut Pro and this awesome camera, I’ll be all set for my video-making needs…
More camera porn…

oooohhhh….I’m salivating over this. Nice. And to think I bought my SONY D707 5-Megapixels for $1000 eight years ago (and my camera is not even optimized for video such as this).
The only thing stopping me to buy this is the fact that I want to upgrade my camera for a Canon 40D. I can imagine myself with a fanny pack or backpack, carrying both of these. Or I could just surrender for both photo and video with the Sony HDRSR12.
Keep us posted if you ever buy this; would like to see a gallery sample.
